At Pingtung Rescue Center we mainly assist central government agencies in the long-term sheltering of endangered species and emergency rescue of wild animals, and provide temporary shelter for animals seized and confiscated by various law enforcement agencies while awaiting investigation and court judgment.

Since 1992, the Center has housed and assisted more than 5,000 animals, including orangutans, various species of gibbons and macaques, sloth monkeys, Taiwan black bears, Malay bears, brown bears, tigers, leopards, stone tigers, brown cats, musk cats, white-nosed cats, pangolins, Taiwan kangaroos, and long-maned goats, as well as many species of raptors, parrots, pheasants, fishes, snakes, lizards and turtles, both domestic and foreign. Currently, the park is home to about 100 species and thousands of wild animals, mostly primates.
